Zomato acquired Paytm Insider for approximately ₹2,048 crore. This included Paytm’s movie ticketing business, Orbgen Technologies Pvt Ltd (OTPL), and its events ticketing business, Wasteland Entertainment Pvt Ltd (WEPL).
Zomato launched a new app called District to support its “going out” services. District will be Zomato’s third attempt at creating a “super brand”.
Users will gradually transition to the District app, while Paytm will retain entertainment ticketing on its app and related platforms for the next 12 months.
The acquisition benefits both Zomato and Paytm. Zomato can expand its business horizons and enter the entertainment ticketing sector. Paytm’s financial performance was bolstered by the sale of Insider.in.
